Who we are

1923 - Oakville, Ontario - The Worn Doorstep begins life as a bed and breakfast at 212 Front Street in Oakville, Ontario. It is owned and operated by Miss Edith Brown (Aunt Edie B), Lesley's great aunt. Edie B. was an inspirational figure in our family. Her fiancee was killed in World War I. After this loss, she never married, devoting herself instead to a life as a business woman. Even though she smoked two packs of Peter Jackson's a day, she lived to be 96 years of age.

1963 - Ottawa, Ontario - Lesley starts her first business washing and oiling bikes for 15 cents.

1985 - Montreal, Quebec - Lesley, fresh out of school, re-invents The Worn Doorstep as an award-winning Canadiana shop which she operates happily until her retirement in 2007.

2007 - Montreal, Quebec - After trying to be retired for 3 weeks, and inspired by a dear friend, June Grant, Lesley opens The Worn Doorstep Living Assistance Services.
